Have you already mastered the art of Modern Calligraphy with a dip pen and now feel ready to experiment and learn all about calligraphy engraving? If so this online tutorial live with me is the perfect next step!
What can I expect from the tutorial?
Ahead of the session I will send a list of recommended materials to get going with on your engraving journey. We will then book our 2 hour timeslot via email.
During the session I will talk you through and show you how to use your engraving equipment. We will practice using the drill on glass products, giving you all my tips and tricks and troubleshooting along the way.
Please note - I will have a two camera set up, one where you can see my face while we chat and one with the viewpoint on my hands so you can see my clearly demonstrating how to use the tools. It would be ideal for you to have a camera set up so I can see you working, but it’s not essential, I can troubleshoot verbally.
What do I need for the tutorial?
Please see below a list of products I recommend sourcing ahead of our tutorial…
A Yokefellow drill. This is my preferred drill to use but if you already have another one that’s fine, just email me which model you have ahead of the session.
Diamond burrs. Again if you have others that’s fine. These are a good starting point.
Gold Rub N Buff - This gives such a beautiful finish to your engraving! You can source in a variety of colours and shades.
Rubbing Alcohol - to remove the draft lettering once engraved
Staedtler pens for drafting - you can also use a post pen or something similar. These are my go to for drafting out my calligraphy.
Glass bottles to practice on. Perfume bottles or wine bottles are perfect! Just not anything pressurised like champagne.
You will also need some cotton buds, cotton wool, and glasses / goggles and a face mask for protection.
What will I learn?
I will give you all the tips and tricks you need to go away and practice your engraving! Much like with learning calligraphy, practice makes perfect!
